Tommaso Cioni Questioned by Authorities in Ongoing Nancy Guthrie Investigation

Authorities investigating the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie in Tucson, Arizona, have clarified that Tommaso Cioni was not arrested, despite early online claims suggesting otherwise. Officials from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Cioni voluntarily participated in extended questioning as part of standard investigative procedure, and no charges have been filed against him.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on the evening of January 31, 2026, after dinner with her daughter Annie and son-in-law Cioni. According to investigators, Cioni later drove her home to the Catalina Foothills residence and left after confirming she entered safely. She was reported missing the following day when she failed to attend church and could not be reached.

Law enforcement has described the case as suspicious, citing several pieces of evidence recovered from the home, including a disconnected security camera, small amounts of blood later confirmed to belong to Nancy, and a disruption in data from her pacemaker around 2:00 a.m. These findings led investigators to treat the case as a possible abduction, though no definitive conclusions have been announced.

Authorities have emphasized that interviewing close contacts—such as family members—is a routine part of missing persons investigations and does not imply wrongdoing. Officials have repeatedly stressed that Cioni’s questioning was voluntary and not an arrest.

The FBI has joined the investigation, which also includes ground searches, drone operations, K-9 units, and forensic review of digital and physical evidence. A $50,000 reward has been offered for information leading to Nancy’s whereabouts.

In the days following the disappearance, investigators also reported receiving ransom-related messages. One unrelated individual in California has since been arrested for allegedly sending fraudulent ransom communications, though officials confirmed this case is separate from the disappearance itself.

Nancy’s family has made public appeals for information, noting that she requires regular medication and expressing hope for her safe return. Authorities continue to urge the public to rely only on verified updates and to submit any credible tips directly to law enforcement.

As of the latest update, no arrests have been made, no suspects have been officially named, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
