A student who went viral after a disturbing incident in which she lost her eyesight during a drug-induced psychotic episode has said she holds “no regrets,” even after recently being dismissed from her job.
Kaylee Muthart, from Anderson, South Carolina, was 20 years old in 2018 when she experienced a severe breakdown while under the influence of methamphetamine. She had previously used marijuana in high school before escalating to harder drugs, including meth, which she later said profoundly altered her perception of reality.
Just before entering rehab, she reportedly used the drug one last time, which triggered intense hallucinations and delusions. In that state, she became convinced she needed to harm herself to prevent some imagined catastrophe, resulting in a self-inflicted injury that left her permanently blind.
She was later discovered by a local pastor in distress and was rushed for medical help. Despite the life-altering outcome, she eventually managed to stop using drugs and has since focused on rebuilding her life, including returning to work in entry-level employment while continuing her education.
More recently, she revealed she was fired from her job but maintains that she has no regrets about her journey, saying she is focused on moving forward and staying sober.
