It’s amazing how quickly your brain can turn a tiny, harmless object into something terrifying. Sitting there on the couch, every little detail of it looked wrong — the shape, the texture, the shadows around it. I kept watching the cat, convinced for a moment that this weird thing must have come from her, and suddenly every movement she made felt suspicious.

I didn’t even want to touch it at first. My imagination had already decided it was some kind of parasite, egg sac, or something straight out of a horror movie.

But after finally working up the nerve to search it online, the mystery turned out to be far less dramatic: just a dried seed pod that had likely clung to the cat’s fur before falling onto the couch.

The panic faded pretty quickly, replaced by relief and laughter — though the experience left me realizing how easily ordinary things can seem terrifying when you don’t recognize them. Now every random speck on the sofa gets a second look before I stop worrying.
