Authorities say 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen arrived at the Washington Hilton with what investigators believe was a planned attack rather than a spontaneous breakdown. After traveling cross-country and checking in days before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, he allegedly armed himself and moved toward an area hosting some of the nation’s most heavily protected officials.
Inside were President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, senior administration figures, and prominent journalists. Secret Service agents intervened, and during the confrontation one officer was shot before Allen was subdued and taken into custody.
Investigators later reported finding electronic evidence and a manifesto suggesting intent to target administration officials, potentially including the president. Officials have also linked him to a group known as The Wide Awakes and noted connections to protest activity in California. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said he appeared “intent on doing as much harm and as much damage as he could,” adding that further charges are expected as the investigation continues.
