While out on a walk with the dog along the beach, we stumbled across this unusual object on the sand.

The air carried a mix of salt and something unsettling as we moved closer, curiosity slowly giving way to discomfort. At first glance, it looked almost like something out of a nightmare—long and twisted like a serpent, its swollen end oddly distorted by the tide. For a brief moment, everyone there hesitated, unsure if we were looking at something unknown or simply something we couldn’t yet understand.

Then reality settled in. A fisherman eventually walked over, took one look, and calmly said it was just a dead eel—its body bloated by gases, reshaped by seawater, sand, and time. The mystery faded, but the uneasy feeling lingered. It was a quiet reminder of how easily the ordinary can seem strange in the wrong light, and how the mind tends to fill in blanks with something far more dramatic.

As we headed back with the dog pulling at the leash, we couldn’t help but glance over our shoulders one last time, still half-expecting it to move.
